Today was Bash’s first day of school and we couldn’t be more ecstatic! I felt like we’ve been preparing for this day for over a year now. Between the crazy Manhattan preschool admissions process that literally starts with a mad rush after Labor Day, to back-to-school shopping (hands down my favorite part), to our night-before procrastinations, err, preparations; the first day of school couldn’t come soon enough.
In the past couple of weeks leading up to the big day, we’ve been eagerly preparing Bash by reading lots of books about school. But last week, when I asked him if he was excited for school, he said he was “scared.” Finally, on the way to school this morning, he perked up at the prospect of a giant sandbox in the middle of the classroom! As soon as he saw the rows upon rows of scooter parking out front, he started getting really excited. Then came the fish tank and bubble wall and trains and, finally, the sandbox!
Over the next few weeks, we’ll see how we keep up with getting out of the house before 8 and transitioning to a full separation. But I’m hopeful we are off to a great start, as he kept saying as we left, “more school!”
