For this week’s featured reads, we’re carrying a tune with Going to the Zoo and Go! Go! Go! Stop!:
Going to the Zoo is a sure winner in our house! We first heard this sung (yes, there’s a catching tune you can learn) at our Mommy and Me class at Poppyseed. It captivated each toddler’s attention during snack time and Bash was hooked. I knew I immediately had to go to the bookstore and pick it up. It’s a nice complement if you already have the book, Dear Zoo, to build animal vocabulary and the animals really come alive through the catchy tune. Fair warning: you may get caught humming “see all the monkeys scritch, scritch, scratchin’” throughout the day!
We first picked up Go! Go! Go! Stop! at our local public library at the recommendation of the children’s librarian who saw Bash head straight for the picture of the dump trucks! Several overdue fines later, we went ahead and bought Go! Go! Go! Stop! and it’s been a shelf staple. We even took this one on our trip, where we proceeded to read it before every nap and bedtime for 2 weeks straight. I’m pretty sure Bash and I have both memorized it and I find it super cute that he now basically “reads” it aloud to me! In addition to a cute story with a moral about working together, I found that it’s a nice introduction to sight words as “go” and “stop” are featured in prominent and color-coded text.
Hope you enjoy this week’s Sunday Shelfie! We’d love to hear from you: let us know your toddler’s favorites in the comments below!
Happy reading!
