With Halloween coming up, we’re getting festive (without the “too scary” factor) with two Halloween books: Little Blue Truck’s Halloween and The Gruffalo.
“Horn went beep!” We can’t get enough of the Little Blue Truck series! This was another find at our Mommy and Me class and we probably started reading this when Bash was about 6 months. Little Blue Truck and Little Blue Truck Leads the Way quickly became favorites and go-to presents for friends for their folksy rhymes, fun to read aloud sounds, and sweet messages around friendship and patience. So of course, we had to check out what Little Blue would dress as for Halloween! With liftable flaps to discover which of Blue’s friends are hiding beneath their masks and the series’ characteristic sing-song rhymes, this is the perfect book to get into the Halloween spirit without the scare factor.
From the power duo of Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, The Gruffalo is an imaginative story about a quick-witted mouse who outsmarts the most dangerous predators in the “deep dark wood,” including the terrible Gruffalo (whose depiction isn’t too scary for toddlers). This is such a creative, descriptive story with a clever twist that I love to read. Bash loves the dramatic build-up, complete with theatrical voice-overs courtesy of yours truly. This is definitely a year-round favorite in our house!
Happy reading! Tell us: how are you getting in the Halloween spirit?
