All aboard! While we’ve had a few unseasonably warm and humid days, we are now full steam ahead to cooler weather. We haven’t had to break out the heavy jackets yet, but we are adding layers and finally swapping our boat shoes for boots. Continuing our celebration of all things fall, we took a trip upstate to the Hudson River Valley. It’s one of our favorite places year-round, but we find it especially enchanting this time of year when the leaves are turning their golden hues. We visited the town of Kingston, where there are tons of family and toddler-friendly activities. Here are a few more of our favorite looks to finish off our toddler boys fall fashion series (Back to School Fall Fashion and Fall Toddler Fashion on the Farm) for this season:
The Engineer’s Monday Blues
This is a look that says, “I’ve been working on the railroad…in style!” We certainly aren’t afraid of experimenting with a denim-on-denim look! Break up the monochromatic look with hints of rugged brown accessories, a leather bracelet, and all-weather work boots. We chose these toddler-sized Sperry boots (perfect for keeping feet dry and toasty), but any pair of work books would complete the look. Alternatively, try pairing this outfit with Chelsea boots for a more polished look.
Campfire Cardigan Cozy
Fall means sweater weather! We are keeping cozy in lots of layers and soft cable knits in a palette of mixed neutrals. This casual, comfy look is equally at home warming up beside a roaring campfire or exploring the woods (or in our case, getting our Smorgasburg on at the Hutton Brickyards). A chunky herringbone knit is a great fall staple that is certain to turn any outfit into a statement. These pile-lined kicks keep those tootsies warm while the high-top style provides a dose of urban street cred.
Little Lebowski
This little dude abides to the calling of a magic trolley ride at the Trolley Museum of New York! Bash is going to ride comfortably on his way to El Duderino while outfitted in a classic “cowichan”-style cardigan, faded t-shirt, and baggy sweats. If only Pendleton would release a kids’ Original Westerley and maybe we’d add some tie dye socks for a true Lebowski look! Although your toddler might look the part of a laid back dude with this outfit on, we all know they won’t act it. PS: no rugs were harmed in the making of this photo shoot.
A Playground Journeyman
You can’t go wrong in a flannel workshirt, especially one with contrasting elbow patches. Whether Bash is wrangling his herd of farm animals or getting down and dirty at the playground, this is one classic fall look that will keep him cozy in style. We love how this shirt jacket pulls double duty as a lightweight mid-layer over a simple henley or alone as a more casual button-down alternative.
The Urban Rambler
Mix up your textures with thermals and flannel plaids to keep fall layers crisp and interesting. Also, take a cue from nature: use pops of fall foliage colors to help to break up those muted neutral tones. We love the red collar peeking out and the maroon kicks add just the right splash of wow. Speaking of which, we are obsessing over these toddler Vans high-tops. Combining their skater street cred reputation with the look of a retro designer kick, these maroon sneakers (complete with easy on/off zippers) are quickly becoming our go-to boat shoe replacement. These definitely call for some father / son twinning!
